How To Lose Weight - It Really Is This Simple

One Month In - Despatches From The Front Line In The War Against Flab
Thursday January 31st 2008, 10:33am
I weighed myself this morning and my bathroom scales tell me that I now weigh 12 stone 7lb.
So I've lost 3lb this month when my target was 4-5lb.
I'm quite pleased with myself actually. My new scales were not in place at the start of the month and may well have had me heavier than my start weight of 12 stone 10lb. So maybe I have lost 4 or 5lbs.
By the end of February I'm hoping to be 12 stone 3lb and am confident I can achieve that (without blaming the scales if I don't).
I've not really made any big sacrifices during January.
Food wise, I have tried to minimise my snacking. In the morning I have more or less the same every day - cereal, juice and Actimel first thing followed by an apple or a banana mid-morning.
Then for dinner I basically eat what is put in front of me
- usually eating around the 500-600 calorie mark. I don't have a pudding.
I might have a bit of fruit in the afternoon to keep me ticking over and that's me until the evening.
Between 7pm and midnight has always been where I let myself down - watching TV and feeding my face seem to go together. So I have tried to eat my tea a little later than normal and then try to steer clear of the biscuit tin or limit myself to just the one snack. The point is, the odd bag of crisps here and there isn't my problem and it probably isn't yours either - it's that second bag ("they don't put as many crisps in a bag as they used to"), then the two or three or four choccie biscuits, the couple of slices of toast ("easy on the butter - I am on a diet"), and so it goes on.
Exercise wise, I'm walking the dog as usual and going to the gym twice a week - although missed a session this week as I've managed to tear some tendons in my left arm (sweeping up outside would you believe).
So, without drastically changing my lifestyle, I've managed to lose a few pounds and really want to lose four more pounds by the end of February.

Stop weighing yourself so often for starters. I do the same thing - every time I go to the bathroom I'm on the scales - but you should really be looking at changes over a weekly or even monthly period. I read somewhere that a person's weight can fluctuate by as much as ten pounds in a day so what you say is nothing unusual.
